Junior Engineers @ Work

20 June 2014 (Fri):

My sil signed them up for a 2 days workshop held at Chong Pang CC. They learned stuff like motor & axle, crown gear, USB hub & tilt sensor, etc...

At the end of the course, they each got a certificate of attendance. But instead of getting back the kinetic rabbit which they did, the instructor presented them a 3 in 1 creator each.

Bollywood Veggies

Back dated post ~
05 June 2014 (Thurs):

This morning, I brought the kids over to Bollywood Veggies, off Kranji Countryside. We took the shuttle from Kranji MRT Station.

Prior to this, I was looking at its website to see what other farms we could visit but due to time constraint & waiting time for the shuttle buses in between, we decided to only stop at Bollywood Veggies. I do not drive so even visiting other farms within the same area would pose a problem since walking distance was not a plus factor.

Shuttle Bus @ $3/adult & $1/child. The bus timing stated on the pillar & website were different.

Admission @ $2/person. However, if you came by the shuttle bus, admission is free.

After walking around, we were quite disappointed. Some of the grounds were bare; what could have been interesting plants with blooming flowers or fruits to awe at, now vacant. Either the fruits/veggies were not in planting season or.... oh well..

This is their only restaurant @ Bollywood - Poison Ivy.

The air conditioned environment was welcoming after a humid day outside. We were lucky to have found a table cos the crowd started pouring in right after we sat down.

Menu for your reference.

While waiting for the shuttle bus.....

As the bus stops over at Sungai Buloh, the kids asked to walk around. This was not the 1st time we have been here anyway...

After walking for only about 15 mins, it started to drizzle. And the drizzle turned to heavy rain. What to do but run for shelter.

Spot it? This creature was basking in the rain till the rain got too heavy & it went down under the waters. The picture's too appropriate for some captions...lol

A date with X-Men

09 Jun 2014 (Mon):

On 01 Jun 2014 (Sun), we had a date with X-Men. We caught this movie @ Aeon, Bukit Indah, Skudai, Malaysia. Daddy promised the kids a movie should time permits & we caught the 10pm show. I was a little reluctant as the movie was about 2.5hrs long & this means, we would only be back home between 1-2am...

We only managed to get seats 3 rows from the front... I found hard to be comfy...my neck was aching.

RM15/adt & RM8/child ... cool deal!

Right before our show, we had dinner at this hotstone restaurant.

Sizzling....

Rainbow Loom Bands

29 May 2014 (Thurs):

After the exams, I had the kids engaging in what they called it the " in-thingy " among kids (even adults maybe) now. Rainbow Loom Bands.

Its is everywhere; in schools, bookshops, neighbourhood markets & even online purchases. Once the 2 of them got the know-how, they were hooked onto it. They spent every free time they have on it, making braclets, rings, pencil grips for family members. You can get the tutorial on Youtube.

Some of the looming can be quite complicated. Even mummy here got confused as to which band to loop :P

starburst - cant really see it on this band.

the standard one - fish tail

single triple loom band

infinity band - as given name on Youtube.

pencil grip.

P1 Academic Review Papers 2014

23 May 2014 (Fri):

Little princess here did very well too, though there's no band grading for her level. However, the holistic assessments played a part in her overall review. I do not have her results for her Eng paper yet.

For her hanyu pinyin, I was kinda worried as she had problems blending the sounds properly. During our revision, I had no choice but to use the memory method to guide her on how to blend. For example: bed 床 (chuang 2) and not ship 船 (chuan 2). Instead of asking her to blend, I told her to memorize it.

Luckily, she scored well.

And for maths, she whizzed through her revisions & did well.

P3 SA1 2014 Results

23 May 2014 (Fri):

Apologies for the lack of posts. May was a tedious month with lots of academic revision & coaching as the SA (Semestral Assessment) papers were round the corner for my P3 boy. This is a grading on topics covered since the beginning of school year right up till May.

For the P3s, they have this academic system along an "achievement band " whereby the students were graded according to their marks achieved:

Band 1 ~ 85% & above
Band 2 ~ 70% - 84%
Band 3 ~ 50% - 69%
Band 4 ~ below 50%

Based on the results below, I am proud to say Lionel had done well & has exceeded my expectations greatly. :)

Eng: 44/50 ~ 88%

Mother Tongue: 43.5/50 ~ 96%

Maths: 96/100 ~ 96%

Science: 48/50 ~ 96%
